Plano East vs. Tyler 1994

Fellow blogger and reader of Awesometown- Matt Bryan referenced a quote on my comments that motivated me to post this video for your viewing pleasure. Dallas locals will definitely remember this and others might have seen it on the ESPY's. The most classic part is the commentators who morph back into fans as their Plano East team attempts the unthinkable. Make sure you have sound, and for a complete story check out this article. The video is a bit long, but worth every second.

Here's a few things, because you're right: the social context is in the commentators, not the actual game. That was a pretty good comeback, but the fact that the booster club, uh, the play-by-play guys said what they did, that's what made it classic. It's like if Milo Hamilton would have broken down in tears after The Pujols Home Run. Anyway, here are my favorite parts of the commentators:

1. "Break out the Oreos." I don't know what this means.

2. "Ah jes' wet mah britches." I don't doubt that he did. I really think that guy soiled his jeans (come on, you know that he was wearing jeans. And a shirt with snaps.)

3. The Terry Bowden-sounding guy. He calls on God and Jesus, and your first thought is "This guy just took the Lord's name in vain." But think about it, he probably didn't. He was, in his heart, probably asking God and Jesus to come down and smite the other team.

Classic.
